Leticia Veras Costa Lotufo

Full Professor at the Department of Pharmacology, Institute of Biomedical Sciences, Universidade de São Paulo. Honorary Professor in the Department of Human Biology at the University of Cape Town, South Africa (2021-2026). Coordinator of the Biological Sciences II area at CAPES. Member of the coordination team for the Biota-Fapesp program. Full Member of the São Paulo State Academy of Sciences (ACIESP). Earned a degree in Biological Sciences from Universidade de São Paulo (1993) and a Ph.D. in Sciences (General Physiology) from Universidade de São Paulo (1998). Completed postdoctoral research at Universidade de São Paulo and the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UCSD. Recipient of the Women in Pharmacology: Leader Category award, granted by the Brazilian Society of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics (SBFTE). Former Affiliate Member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (2009-2014). Served as Vice President and Executive Director of SBFTE (2015-2017, 2012-2014 administrations). Former Member of the Council of the Brazilian Society for the Advancement of Science (2013-2017). Served as a Professor in the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology at UFC from 2002 to 2014. Coordinator of the Graduate Program in Pharmacology at UFC (CAPES rating: 6) from 2011 to 2013. Has published over 300 papers in indexed journals, collaborating with hundreds of researchers, and has contributed to the training of 27 master’s students and 22 Ph.D. students. Her scientific research focuses on the search for new anticancer drugs derived from Brazilian biodiversity, particularly in marine environments, where she develops projects to explore microbial biodiversity and its biotechnological potential, aiming for the sustainable development of new drugs. Collaborates with international research groups at the University of California, San Diego (USA), University of Arizona (USA), University of Aveiro (Portugal), Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR-Italy), and the University of Cape Town (South Africa).
