Adriano Defini Andricopulo

He is a Full Professor at the Universidade de São Paulo (USP) and a Level 1A Research Productivity Fellow from CNPq. He serves as the President of the São Paulo State Academy of Sciences (ACIESP) and is a full member of both the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (ABC) and the São Paulo State Academy of Sciences (ACIESP). He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) and the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC). He holds a degree in Chemistry from the Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM), a Master’s and Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC), with a doctoral sandwich program and postdoctoral training in Medicinal Chemistry at the University of Michigan. His primary research interests focus on medicinal chemistry, drug design, and the development of natural and synthetic compounds for the treatment of neglected tropical diseases and cancer. He is a full member of the Management Committee of the Biotechnology Fund (CT-BIOTEC) of the National Fund for Scientific and Technological Development (FNDCT) and a Trustee of the Foundation for the Support of Physics and Chemistry (FAFQ). He serves as the Head of the Department of Physics and Interdisciplinary Science (FCI) at IFSC-USP. He coordinates the Center for Research and Special Innovation in Drug Discovery Sciences (CEPIMED/CEPIx) at USP, the Technology Transfer Program at the Center for Research and Innovation in Biodiversity and Drugs (CIBFar-CEPID/FAPESP), and is the Scientific Coordinator of the National Institute of Science and Technology in Biodiversity and Natural Products (INCT-BioNat). He also coordinates a Thematic Project in international cooperation with the University of Dundee/MRC/UKRI/Newton Fund/FAPESP. He has delivered over 450 conferences, lectures, and seminars in Brazil and abroad, and has participated in several national and international evaluation committees. He was the Chair of the Chemistry Advisory Committee (CA-QU) at CNPq and served as the President of the Brazilian Chemical Society (SBQ) and the World Chemistry Congress (IUPAC-2017). He has also held roles as President-elect, General Secretary, Vice-Director, and Director of the Medicinal Chemistry Division, as well as a member of the SBQ Advisory Board. He has served as Regional Secretary of the Brazilian Society for the Advancement of Science (SBPC-SP/Subarea III), Coordinator of the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Reference Center in Medicinal Chemistry for Chagas Disease in Brazil (TDR/WHO-UNICEF/UNDP/World Bank), and Vice-Coordinator of the National Institute of Science and Technology in Structural Biotechnology and Medicinal Chemistry for Infectious Diseases (INBEQMeDI). He was President of the Research Committee at IFSC-USP, a member of USP’s Research Council, and an Affiliate Member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (ABC-2008). Additionally, he has served as a member of the Division of Chemistry and Human Health, the International Advisory Board for IUPAC-2015 (South Korea), and the International Advisory Board for IUPAC’s Centennial (IUPAC-2019, France).
