Dr. Eduardo Rego graduated in Medicine from the Faculdade de Medicina de Ribeirão Preto da Universidade de São Paulo (USP) in 1988 and obtained a Ph.D. from the same institution in 1997. Subsequently, he completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York (1998-2001) in Dr. Pier Paolo Pandolfi’s laboratory and published several studies on the molecular basis of acute promyelocytic leukemia, with notable articles in PNAS (2000), J Exp Med (2001), Science (2003), and Nature (2008). He was appointed Full Professor at FMRP-USP in 2010, where he worked until 2018. Currently, he is a Full Professor at the Faculdade de Medicina da USP (FM-USP), Coordinator of the Acute Leukemias Service at the Instituto do Câncer do Estado de São Paulo (ICESP), and the Hematology Services of Rede D’Or. He is also a researcher at the Instituto D’Or de Pesquisa e Ensino (IDOR). His main areas of interest are hematological malignancies, with a particular focus on studying the pathophysiology and developing new treatment strategies for acute leukemias. He was a founding member of the International Consortium on Acute Leukemias (ICAL) of the American Society of Hematology, which conducts clinical and translational studies on acute leukemias. Prof. Rego served as Chair of the International Members Committee of the American Society of Hematology (2020-2024) and is the Vice President of the Brazilian Association of Hematology and Hemotherapy.
