He obtained a bachelor’s degree in Aquatic Sciences from the Universidade do Porto, Portugal (1993), and a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences (Biochemistry) from the Universidade de São Paulo (2000). He completed his postdoctoral training at the Universidade de São Paulo (2000-2005) and was a Visiting Researcher at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, NY, USA (2008-2010). He currently serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Biochemistry, Institute of Chemistry, Universidade de São Paulo. He serves as a full advisor in the Graduate Programs in Biochemistry (IQ-USP) and Bioinformatics (Interunidades-USP). He has expertise in Biochemistry, with an emphasis on Molecular Biology and Functional Genomics, focusing primarily on the following topics: transcriptome analysis, identification of molecular markers in cancer and complex diseases, bioinformatics, and annotation and functional characterization of non-coding RNAs.
