Gisele Monteiro

She holds a degree in Biological Sciences – Molecular Biology from the University of Campinas (UNICAMP – 2000) and a Ph.D. and postdoctoral training in Sciences (Biology – Genetics) from the University of São Paulo (USP – 2006). She is currently an Associate Professor III at FCF/USP and coordinates the Graduate Program in Biochemical-Pharmaceutical Technology (08/2024 CAPES 5.0 in the Pharmacy area). She has experience in Molecular Biology with an emphasis on studying the molecular and biological functions of genes involved in cellular processes such as cancer and resistance to antitumor drugs. Her research focus on the heterologous production of proteins in microorganisms such as bacteria and yeasts, as well as protein engineering for the development of biopharmaceuticals, including the enzyme asparaginase used in the treatment of childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia. She served as the Coordinator of the USP team in the international synthetic biology competition iGEM from 2018 to 2023; in 2021, the team ranked among the Top 10 worldwide in the competition.
