Guilherme A. Marson has been a faculty member at the Instituto de Química of the Universidade de São Paulo (IQ-USP) since 2008. Active in chemistry education and outreach since 1990, he earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the same institute in 1996 and a master’s in organic chemistry in 1999. In 2003, he completed a Ph.D. focused on the development of learning objects, resulting in seven tools, three of which were created in collaboration with the University of Pennsylvania (USA). These tools received awards in 2004 and 2005 from the PAPED program of the Ministry of Education and Culture. From 2005 to 2008, he coordinated the “e-learning” project Oncology Online with the HSeT Foundation (hset.org – Lausanne, Switzerland). Returning to Brazil in 2008 to teach chemistry education, he has focused intensively on science outreach. In close collaboration with the Sociedade Brasileira de Química (SBQ), he proposed and assumed the role of content coordinator for the Química Nova Interativa (QNInt) portal (http://qnint.sbq.org.br), the leading chemistry outreach portal in Portuguese. In 2011, he coordinated IQ-USP’s activities for the International Year of Chemistry (IYC) and served on the IYC Brazil steering committee. He proposed and led the exhibition “Chemistry for a Better World” (August to December 2011), accompanied by the book Where is Chemistry? He has served as president of the IQ-USP culture and extension commission and as director of the USP Science Museum. In 2012, he turned chemistry outreach into a research subject, creating the research line Public Image and Chemistry Outreach. (Translated from Currículo Lattes)
