On March 7, 2025, the graduation event for the first cohort of the MBA in Health Innovation Management took place. The program was developed by Instituto Butantan and FMUSP and offered through the HCX FMUSP platform as part of the HC LÍDER Program.
The graduation ceremony was held in person at InovaHC, the Technological Innovation Center of HC. During the event, the 31 graduates presented their final projects in the form of startup proposals to a panel of experts and investors, who provided critical and high-quality evaluations in a real market validation environment. This contributed to the maturation of the projects and the development of the students’ entrepreneurial skills. The proposals ranged from process improvements in hospital settings to projects directly focused on patient care.

The MBA provides a comprehensive managerial experience covering all stages of health innovation: from research to production and commercialization. The program also ensures mastery of regulatory aspects and the legal framework required for technology transfer, facilitating the integration of new solutions into the healthcare sector.
Throughout the course, students work in teams, explore various technologies, and develop strategic and innovative solutions for real healthcare market challenges. Using agile tools, they structure and present their ideas in workshops and hands-on activities distributed across modules such as “Patient Journey,” “Patent Search and Drafting,” “Negotiation and Contracts,” “Technology Transfers,” “Regulatory Aspects,” “Leadership,” “Digital Health,” and “Interoperability.”
The MBA also offers students participation in business simulations that foster the development of essential skills for operating in complex and constantly evolving environments, such as data-driven decision-making, critical thinking, creativity, teamwork, and innovation management. Additionally, it encourages students to take an active role in their learning process, reinforcing interdisciplinarity and the connection between theory and practice.
The program is coordinated by Prof. Roger Chammas (FMUSP), Prof. Ana Marisa Chudzinski-Tavassi (Instituto Butantan), and Prof. Linda Omar Bernardes de Alvarenga (EPM-UNIFESP).
Prof. Roger Chammas comments on the MBA: “The program trains leaders capable of translating scientific discoveries into innovative healthcare products that benefit society and drive market development.”
Prof. Linda Bernardes highlights the importance of innovation: “Our goal is to train leaders for this era in which innovation is crucial for our country’s competitiveness, the expansion of our technologies, our technological autonomy, and this transforming world that demands new products and services that impact the quality of care and management.”
Prof. Ana Marisa Tavassi points out the challenges of health innovation: “Managing healthcare is no simple task—it is an extremely regulated environment, and we need to understand every step of the process to deliver something that truly makes sense and generates value.”
Finally, Renata de Freitas Saito, a researcher at the Center for Translational Research in Oncology (CTO) and one of the MBA graduates, states: “The program provided participants with essential tools to understand the complexity of the innovation sector in the country, as well as transforming the way we perceive and drive innovative projects.”
Applications for the next MBA cohort can be submitted through the HCX platform.
