Luciana Rodrigues Carvalho Barros

She holds a bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences from the Universidade Federal Fluminense (2009), a master’s degree (2010), and a Ph.D. in Cellular and Molecular Biology from the Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, IOC-FIOCRUZ/RJ (2014). She has experience in experiments in the fields of Immunology, Molecular Biology, and Bioinformatics, with an emphasis on Cellular Immunology, focusing primarily on the following topics: T lymphocytes, Duchenne muscular dystrophy, integrins, microRNAs, viral infections, HTLV-1, thymic epithelial cells, thymus, next-generation sequencing (NGS) data analysis, genome editing using non-viral vectors such as transposons, CRISPR-Cas9, and integrases. She currently serves as a researcher at ICESP and as an adjunct professor at the Faculdade de Medicina da USP, where she mentors undergraduate and graduate students. Her projects focus on in silico experiments, the development and management of clinical and molecular databases in REDCap, predictive models based on machine learning, mathematical modeling of oncology therapies, and analysis of germline and somatic variants in cancer. Additionally, in the field of cancer immunotherapy, beyond in silico analyses, she coordinates and collaborates on projects for the development of new CAR designs for CAR-T cells and virus-based therapeutic vaccines.
