Mariana Kiomy Osako

Associate Professor (Livre-Docente) in the Department of Cell Biology, Molecular Biology and Pathogenic Bioagents at the Faculdade de Medicina de Ribeirão Preto, Universidade de São Paulo (FMRP-USP). She obtained a degree in Biomedical Sciences from the Universidade Federal de São Paulo (2003), a master’s degree (2007) and a Ph.D. (2010) in Medical Sciences, and completed postdoctoral training (2010–2012) at Osaka University, Japan. She served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Vascular Medicine and Epigenetics at Osaka University (2012–2013). Her research focuses on the RANKL system in the differentiation of white and beige adipose tissue, mitochondrial dynamics in skeletal muscle, and macrophage phenotypic switching. She also investigates the interaction of viruses such as SARS-CoV-2 and Chikungunya with lipid droplets. She has experience in Cell and Tissue Biology and teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in General and Systems Histology. She is involved with the Center for Assessment in Undergraduate Education (CAEG) and the Center for Faculty Development for Teaching at FMRP. She was on maternity leave in 2018.
