She holds a degree in Biology from the Universidade de São Paulo (1989), a Master’s in Sciences (General Physiology) from the Universidade de São Paulo (1992), and a Ph.D. in Sciences (Human Physiology) from the same institution (1994). She completed her postdoctoral training in Metabolism at the University of Oxford (UK), in Nutritional Biochemistry at the University of Potsdam (Germany), and in Cancer Biochemistry at the University of Barcelona (Spain). She earned her Habilitation (Livre-Docência) in Histology and Embryology from the Universidade de São Paulo (2004). She currently serves as an Associate Professor at the Universidade de São Paulo, Department of Surgery, FMUSP. She i Head of LIM-26 – Experimental Surgery, HC-USP. She is the Director of the Cancer Cachexia Society and a member of the Muhyiddin Ibn Arabi Society and the Society on Cachexia, Sarcopenia, and Muscle Wasting. She has experience in Biochemistry with an emphasis on Metabolism and Bioenergetics, focusing on cancer-associated cachexia, adipose tissue, exercise, nutritional supplementation, and lipid metabolism. She serves as Associate Editor for Frontiers in Clinical Nutrition, Journal of Cachexia Sarcopenia and Muscle, and Nutrition. She is also a Review Editor for Frontiers in Pharmacology (Gastrointestinal and Hepatic Pharmacology) and Frontiers in Oncology (Molecular and Cellular Oncology).
