He graduated in Biological Sciences from São Paulo State University Júlio de Mesquita Filho – UNESP (1994), obtained a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of São Paulo – USP (2000), completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard University, Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology (2000-2003), and received a Habilitation (Livre-docência) from the Institute of Biosciences, University of São Paulo – USP (2012). He served as Coordinator of the Experimental Research Center at the Albert Einstein Teaching and Research Institute (2003-2006), Adjunct Professor of Experimental Neurology at the Escola Paulista de Medicina, Federal University of São Paulo – EPM/UNIFESP (2006-2010), Visiting Professor at the University of Southampton, UK (2017), and Vice-Director of the Institute of Biosciences, University of São Paulo – USP (2018-2022). He is currently a Full Professor in the Department of Genetics and Evolutionary Biology at the Institute of Biosciences, University of São Paulo – USP; Member of the Center for Human Genome and Stem Cell Studies – USP; Member of the Comprehensive Center for Precision Oncology – USP; and Member of the Precision Medicine Committee of the Brazilian Society of Pediatric Oncology.
