Professor Lawrence Banks presents the plan for the creation of an ICGEB Regional Research Centre in Brazil

During his visit to Brazil to participate in the event “Nucleic Acids and Nanobiosystems in Cancer Theranostics,” Professor Lawrence Banks, Director-General of the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), presented to researchers at ICESP the project for establishing a South American Regional Research Centre (RRC), in addition to the existing RRC in Taizhou, China.

Professor Banks demonstrated the objectives and opportunities offered by the ICGEB, such as strengthening the knowledge and skills of the local scientific community through mobility programs for learning, as well as support for scientific events and courses. He also emphasized the importance of strengthening scientific communities in the Global South, ensuring that researchers benefiting from mobility programs return to their home countries so they can contribute to local science.

To the C2PO, Professor Lawrence Banks commented: “I would like to highlight the relevance of ICESP within the Brazilian Oncology community and the pivotal role of the ICGEB Regional Research Center that will be located at ICESP premisses for the research and development and technology transfer in the country and Global South. It was a great opportunity to present the role of ICGEB in research, training and technology transfer in biotechnology across the globe.”
