Dr. Renata de Freitas Saito, a scientific researcher at the Center for Translational Research in Oncology (CTO) of the São Paulo State Cancer Institute (Icesp), won the In.cube award in the Best Performing Team category.

The In.cube program is an initiative of the Innovation Center of the Hospital das Clínicas da Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo (InovaHC) aimed at transforming the scientific and technological knowledge generated within the institution into innovative healthcare products and services. Selected projects are accelerated through a journey composed of three entrepreneurial training modules that transform initial ideas into viable and structured solutions.

The project conceived by Dr. Renata Saito and her team was the creation of ThromboFlow, a health technology startup focused on onco-hematology. In addition to Dr. Saito (Founder and CEO), the startup team includes Dr. Bárbara Barion (Hemostasis Specialist), Daniela Fernandes (Chemist specializing in Materials Engineering), Dr. Guilherme Almeida Maia (Oncologic Hematologist), and Priscila Formaggio Trajano (Healthcare Management Specialist). Through participation in the In.cube program, ThromboFlow now has a viable software platform and a structured business plan.

Soon after joining the program, the project achieved first place among the applicants selected for the 6th edition of In.cube. The incubation process lasted seven months and included mentorship from innovation specialists Jean Singh, Jesus Cavalcante, and Romina Soledad Horianski, all from InovaHC, culminating in the achievement of the Best Performing Team award at the program’s closing ceremony. Of all proposals participating in this year’s edition, only 12 teams advanced to the grand finale.

In a social media post, Dr. Saito commented on the importance of the award: “This award brings tremendous energy for the next steps ahead. I leave with the certainty that connecting academia with innovation and entrepreneurship is incredibly valuable and necessary to create an impact on healthcare in Brazil!”

The award was presented during the 2026 edition of Hospital Fair on May 20, 2026.
