On November 28, 2025, students of the Oncology Program gathered at the Auditorium of the São Paulo State Cancer Institute (Icesp) for the XVI Oncology Graduate Symposium in Oncology of the Faculdade de Medicina da USP (FMUSP) (Jornada da Pós-Graduação em Oncologia, in Portuguese).
Throughout the event, master’s and doctoral students presented their research in oral sessions. The presentations highlighted the diversity of topics investigated within the Program, created opportunities for faculty members and experienced researchers to offer guidance and encouragement, and promoted integration and knowledge exchange among students dedicated to different research areas.
The Organizing Committee of the 16th Symposium was composed of doctoral candidates Ana Carolina Pavanelli, Vinicius Marques Rocha, and Jaqueline Rhoden, and master’s student Maria Clara de Lobo e Mendonça. Commenting on the event, the members of the Committee highlighted that “The Symposium represents the celebration of the tireless work of students, advisors, and researchers. At this event, we can discuss our results, challenges, and innovations, as well as promote learning and integration among different areas of oncology. It is a pleasure to be part of the organization of such an important event, which has already become a milestone in our academic calendar!”
The 2025 edition also featured a lecture by Dr. Izabel Cristina Rios, Coordinator of the Rede Humaniza FMUSP-HC and of the Humanization Technical and Scientific Center of HC. In her talk, she discussed perspectives and challenges of humanization in care and research environments, emphasizing the relevance of the theme for the training of health-care professionals and researchers.
The 16th Symposium reinforced the commitment of the Graduate Program in Oncology at FMUSP to training researchers capable of engaging in dialogue, proposing solutions, refining ideas, and advancing scientific knowledge related to cancer.
At the end of the day, the winners of the Maria Mitzi Brentani Award, which recognizes the best presentations, were announced:
