He is a Full Professor at the São Carlos Institute of Physics (IFSC) of the University of São Paulo (USP), coordinating the Nanomedicine and Nanotoxicology Group (GNano/IFSC/USP). He serves as president of the Scientific Writing Portal Committee at USP São Carlos. He previously served as coordinator of the Institute of Advanced Studies (IEA) at USP São Carlos. He is a former Affiliate Member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (ABC) and Full Member of the Deliberative Council of the Brazilian Association of Scientific Editors (ABEC). He holds a degree in Materials Engineering from the Federal University of São Carlos (1997), a master’s in Materials Science and Engineering from the same institution (1999), and a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of São Paulo (2003). He completed a research internship at the University of Massachusetts at Lowell, USA (2000–2001), and was a Visiting Professor at Joseph Fourier University in Grenoble, France, in 2010. He has expertise in nanotechnology and the development and application of nanomaterials in medicine, focusing on areas such as nanomedicine, the development of nanomaterials for diagnostics and therapy, polymers, self-assembly, biosensors, and nanocomposites. He supervised dozens of graduate students and 65 postdoctoral researchers. He developed and annually teaches a graduate-level course in Scientific Writing Techniques in English. He created DVDs and online courses on scientific writing and delivers workshops on writing scientific articles and scientific editing at various universities in Brazil and abroad. He published over 220 articles in international journals, 20 book chapters, and 30 patent applications, with 9 granted patents. He accumulated more than 10,500 citations (Google Scholar) and an h-index of 48, 51, and 60 (Web of Science, Scopus, and Google Scholar, respectively). He delivered over 550 invited lectures at scientific and educational events in Brazil and internationally.
