She is a Full Professor in the Department of Cell and Developmental Biology at the Institute of Biomedical Sciences (ICB), Universidade de São Paulo (USP). She graduated in Medicine from the Faculdade de Medicina de Ribeirão Preto-Universidade de São Paulo (1980), obtained a Master’s degree (1990) and a Ph.D. (1994) in Medicine (Clinical Endocrinology) from the Escola Paulista de Medicina-Unifesp, and completed her Habilitation (2005) at ICB-USP. She is a member of the Latin American Thyroid Society (LATS), the American Thyroid Association (ATA), the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), the Brazilian Society for Cell Biology (SBBC), and the Brazilian Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism (SBEM), where she served as President of the Thyroid Department (2009-2010). She ia the former Editor-in-Chief of the Arquivos Brasileiros de Endocrinologia e Metabologia (2007-2010), she is currently part of the editorial boards of Thyroid, Arch End Metab, and Brazilian J Med Biol Research. She conducts research in the area of thyroid cancer and goiter, focusing on MAPK (BRAF), TGF-beta, iodine, and microRNA signaling pathways, using in vitro and in vivo models that include molecular biology, histology, cell biology, genomics, gene editing, and animal model techniques. She was the recipient of the LATS Award, granted by the Latin American Thyroid Society in 2009, and the EBT-2016 Award, granted by the Thyroid Department-SBEM in 2016.
