Enrique Boccardo

Associate Professor in the Department of Microbiology at the Institute of Biomedical Sciences, Universidade de São Paulo. Earned a degree in Biological Sciences (1994) from Universidad de La República – Uruguay, a Master’s in Molecular and Cellular Biology (1997) from Universidad de La República – Uruguay, and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry (2002) from the Institute of Chemistry at USP. Completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship in the Virology Laboratory at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research (2002–2003). Worked as a researcher in the Virology Laboratory at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research from 2003 to 2010. Studies the different mechanisms of cellular transformation by oncogenic viruses, with a focus on the effects of human papillomavirus (HPV) infection on alterations in DNA damage repair mechanisms, cytokine resistance, innate immune response evasion, apoptosis control, and modifications in extracellular matrix components. Additionally, develops organotypic skin culture models to study HPV biology and analyzes the presence of synthetic lethality between viral oncogenes and various cellular factors.
