USP Medical School opens position for Assistant Professor in Medical Physics

The Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo (FMUSP) is holding a public examination for the position of Assistant Professor in the Department of Radiology and Oncology, in the field of Medical Physics, under the Full-Time Teaching and Research Regime, with a salary of R$ 16,353.01.

Among the requirements, candidates must: 1. hold a degree in Physics or Medical Physics; and 2. hold a doctoral degree in Medical Physics, Physics Applied to Medicine, Health Sciences, or related fields; or, for candidates who hold a degree in Medical Physics, a doctoral degree in Physics will also be accepted.

The program topics include: 1 – Fundamentals of radiation; 2 – Interactions of radiation with matter; 3 – Concepts of dose and dosimetry devices; 4 – Radiation protection in medical and hospital environments; 5 – Biological effects of radiation and radiobiology; 6 – Detectors and digital technologies in diagnostic imaging; 7 – Regulatory standards in medical physics; 8 – Quality control in medical imaging and radiotherapy; 9 – Conventional radiology: physical principles, equipment, and technical parameters; 10 – Computed tomography: physical principles, equipment, and technical parameters; 11 – Ultrasonography: physical principles, equipment, and technical parameters; 12 – Magnetic resonance imaging: physical principles, equipment, and technical parameters; 13 – Instrumentation in nuclear medicine (scintillation camera, PET, SPECT); 14 – Production and use of diagnostic and therapeutic radionuclides; 15 – Radiotherapy and operation of linear accelerators; 16 – Radiotherapy planning techniques; 17 – Advanced image processing and radiomics; 18 – Technological innovation in medical physics; 19 – Scientific research in medical physics and health; 20 – Occupational health, forensic medicine, and ethics in medical physics.

The application fee is R$ 370.20, with the possibility of a full exemption or a 50% reduction. Requests for exemption must be submitted through the system between November 12 and 13, 2025, along with supporting documentation. The results of exemption requests will be released on November 17, and requests for reconsideration may be submitted between November 18 and 19. The final result will be announced on November 24, 2025.

Applications will be open from December 1, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., until January 14, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. (Brasília time), exclusively through uspdigital.usp.br/gr/admissao.

The examinations will take place between 30 and 120 days after the publication of the list of approved applications.

The selection process will consist of two stages: the first, a written test (weight 3), is eliminatory; the second includes evaluation of the academic dossier with a public defense (weight 4) and a teaching test (weight 3).
